Taxi from Málaga Airport: the rank, the official tariff and what you will pay

Official taxis wait at the rank outside the Arrivals exit on level 0. Every Málaga taxi runs on a compulsory meter, and the metered amount is the most you can be charged. What changes the price is where you are going: a trip that ends inside the municipality of Málaga uses the city's urban airport tariff, while a trip to Torremolinos, Marbella or anywhere else outside the municipality uses the Andalusian interurban tariff, which is charged on a round-trip basis. This page explains both tariffs, gives worked estimates for the usual destinations, and sets out how Uber and Bolt differ from the taxi rank. Tariffs and fares were checked on 9 October 2026 against the official resolutions.

Quick answer

The taxi rank is outside the Arrivals exit on level 0; join the queue and take the first car. A taxi to Málaga city centre costs the airport minimum of €18.24 on weekdays 06:00–22:00 (€22.48 or €25.80 at other times), plus €0.58 per suitcase in the boot. Destinations outside Málaga municipality are charged on the interurban tariff for the round trip, so Marbella is about €74 on weekdays. The meter is compulsory, card payment must be accepted, and there is no official fixed airport price.

Aena publishes the taxi rank simply as "Arrivals". After baggage reclaim, walk out into the Arrivals hall on level 0 and follow the taxi signs to the rank outside the Arrivals exit. Málaga has one connected passenger terminal, so there is no other building to go to. Aena names Taxi Union and Unitaxi as the taxi companies operating at the airport; neither company's contact details are published by Aena or the Ayuntamiento.

Under the city's taxi by-law, a taxi may only pick you up at the airport at the authorised rank or on a documented prior booking. Cars stand at the rank in order of arrival. Join the end of the queue and take the car at the head of it.

A genuine Málaga taxi is white with a blue diagonal band on the front doors, the city's coat of arms, the word TAXI and the licence number on the front doors and at the rear, and SP (public service) plates. Inside there must be a plate with the licence number, registration and number of seats, also in Braille. Magnetic "TAXI" signs are not allowed in Málaga: the markings are permanent.

The urban tariff: tariffs 4, 5 and 9

The airport is inside the urban zone of the municipality of Málaga, so any journey that starts at the airport and ends inside Málaga municipality uses the city's urban tariff. Airport journeys have their own three tariff numbers, 4, 5 and 9. They are the city's ordinary tariffs 1, 2 and 3 with a higher airport minimum fare; the flagfall, per-kilometre and waiting rates are the same. Which number applies depends only on the day and time:

  • Tariff 4: Monday to Friday on working days, 06:00–22:00.
  • Tariff 5: weekdays 00:00–06:00; weekdays 22:00–00:00 except Fridays and the eves of public holidays; Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays 06:00–22:00; August Fair and Easter Week 06:00–20:00; 24 and 31 December and 5 January 00:00–22:00.
  • Tariff 9: Fridays and the eves of public holidays 22:00–00:00; Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays 00:00–06:00 and 22:00–00:00; 24 and 31 December and 5 January 22:00–00:00; August Fair and Easter Week 20:00–06:00.

Why most trips into Málaga cost the same. The minimum fare is a true minimum: you pay the metered amount or the minimum, whichever is higher, never both. On tariff 4 the meter only passes €18.24 after about 15.6 km (about 16.2 km on tariffs 5 and 9), so almost every address in the city costs exactly the minimum.

Aena's page shows two "Minimum fare" lines per tariff. The larger figure is the minimum fare for the whole journey; the smaller one is the flagfall. The waiting charge is per hour.

Supplements

The 2026 urban tariff adds these supplements (checked 9 October 2026):

  • €0.58 per item of luggage or suitcase carried in the boot.
  • €2.23 for services between 00:00 and 06:00.
  • €2.79 for vehicles carrying a fifth passenger or more.
  • €6.49 airport supplement. The official text reads "services with origin or destination the airport", but the Ayuntamiento's own guidance amounts show it added to journeys to the airport and not to journeys from it, because tariffs 4, 5 and 9 already carry the higher airport minimum. Do not expect it on top of an airport-origin fare.

The tariff also sets a €9.45 minimum for the port (Estación Marítima de Levante). From the airport it makes no difference, because the airport minimum is higher.

Leaving Málaga municipality: tariffs 7 and 8 and the round-trip rule

Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Marbella and every other town outside the municipality of Málaga are charged on the Andalusian interurban tariff, not the city tariff. The meter should show 7 or 8.

Source: resolution of 5 March 2026 of the Junta de Andalucía's Dirección General de Movilidad y Transportes, BOJA no. 49 of 12 March 2026, which keeps the 2025 amounts for 2026; checked 9 October 2026.

The round-trip rule. Under the Andalusian rules the taxi is hired as a whole car and, unless you expressly agree otherwise, the journey is treated as a closed circuit back to the starting point by the shortest route. That is why the fare is roughly double the one-way distance: 52 km to Marbella is charged as 104 km. This is the law, not an overcharge. The flagfall is only added on trips under 12 km, and the minimum charge is never added on top of the kilometre charge.

Pre-booked closed prices. For an interurban trip you book in advance, a closed price is lawful if it does not exceed the tariff estimate for the journey, the meter stays on throughout, and the price is shown on the car's exterior tariff display (code 6). A "fixed price" offered on the spot by a driver you did not book is not this.

Estimated fares from the airport

The figures below are estimates derived from the official tariffs, not fixed prices. They use the Ayuntamiento de Málaga's own published kilometre figures from the airport, the shortest practicable route and, for towns outside Málaga, the round-trip basis. Traffic, waiting time, tolls, luggage supplements and the exact street address all change the amount, and the meter always governs. Checked 9 October 2026.

Inside Málaga municipality: urban tariff 4, 5 or 9

Derived from the urban tariff of 9 February 2026 (BOJA no. 41, 2 March 2026). Add €0.58 per suitcase in the boot and €2.23 between 00:00 and 06:00.

For the city centre the Ayuntamiento's guidance sheet, still labelled with 2025 tariffs, gives €17, €22 and €25. For Teatinos no official distance is published: under about 15.6 km the minimum applies, beyond that the meter does.

Outside Málaga municipality: interurban tariff 7 or 8

Derived from the interurban tariff in force for 2026 (BOJA no. 49, 12 March 2026) on the round-trip basis. Tariff 7 applies Monday to Friday on working days 06:00–22:00; tariff 8 at weekends, on holidays and on weekday nights. The last column shows the Ayuntamiento's own indicative amounts, which are labelled with 2025 tariffs; its tariff 8 column is slightly lower than a calculation at the authorised €0.82 per km.

Where no estimate is given

La Línea de la Concepción and the Gibraltar frontier, and Torre del Mar (Vélez-Málaga), are separate municipalities, so the interurban tariff applies, but the Ayuntamiento publishes no distance for them and no estimate is offered. Agree the basis with the driver before you set off, or book a closed price in advance. For La Línea the coach is an alternative: see buses and coaches.

Paying, receipts, routes and tolls

  • The meter is compulsory for all urban and interurban services, and the metered amount is the maximum price. Before you set off, check that it is running and that it shows 4, 5 or 9 for a Málaga address, or 7 or 8 for another town.
  • Card payment. Every Málaga taxi must carry a reader for credit and debit cards. If the reader fails, the driver must stop the meter while taking you to a cash machine.
  • Change. Drivers must give change for amounts up to €20.
  • At the end of the trip the driver must tell you the total and itemise any supplements so you can check them on the meter.
  • Printed receipt. It is obligatory and shows the licence number, the tariff applied, the supplements, the distance and the total with VAT. On request it must also show your details and the origin and destination addresses. Keep it: you need it for a complaint or to trace lost property.
  • Route. You may choose the route; otherwise the driver must take the shortest or quickest practicable one. Give the full street address before the meter starts.
  • Tolls. If the route uses a toll motorway, the driver must tell you beforehand, and you pay the toll.
  • Breakdowns. If the taxi breaks down you pay only for the distance covered, minus the start-up charge, and the driver should find you another taxi where possible.

Taking a taxi to the airport

From the city to the airport you pay the ordinary urban tariff 1, 2 or 3 (same time bands as 4, 5 and 9) plus the €6.49 airport supplement, €0.58 per suitcase in the boot and €2.23 between 00:00 and 06:00. The Ayuntamiento's guidance sheet from Plaza de la Marina (11 km) gives €19, €22 and €24 on the 2025 tariff; on the 2026 tariff the same calculation gives about €19.92 on tariff 1 and €22.51 on tariff 2, before luggage.

You can take a taxi at any city rank, hail one in the street, or book by phone. The Ayuntamiento's airport fare sheet prints four taxi booking numbers, without saying which company each belongs to: 952 333 333, 952 320 000, 952 040 804 and 952 040 404. Book ahead if you need a larger or accessible vehicle. Interurban tariffs 7 and 8 apply if you start outside Málaga municipality.

Accessible taxis, children, assistance dogs, pets and bulky luggage

  • Wheelchair-accessible taxis. At least 5% of Málaga's taxi licences must be adapted vehicles. The Ayuntamiento's airport fare sheet invites you to request one on the booking numbers above. Adapted taxis serve passengers with disabilities as a priority, and their drivers must help you in and out and load the wheelchair.
  • Free of charge: wheelchairs, child seats and guide or assistance dogs. A driver may not refuse you because of them.
  • Child seats are not guaranteed by anyone. Bring your own; the driver must help you load it.
  • Other animals may be refused if they could cause risk or damage to the vehicle. Agree it when you book.
  • Golf bags, bicycles and large items. The boot must be kept free for luggage and roof racks are not allowed in service, so a bulky item depends on the car. Book a larger vehicle. On interurban trips the rules allow free carriage of up to 50 kg of luggage (60 kg in larger vehicles) once all seats are used, plus 30 kg per empty seat if it can travel safely inside.
  • Five or more passengers: a €2.79 supplement applies.

For help inside the terminal, see special assistance.

Uber, Bolt and other app-based rides (VTC)

Uber and Bolt are VTC services (vehicles hired with a driver), a different licence from the taxi. As of 9 October 2026 Aena lists these two at Málaga Airport. At an airport a VTC may only pick you up on a booking made in advance, so book in the app before you walk anywhere, and do not go to the taxi rank.

  • Uber: Aena gives the pick-up as "Priority park T3. Floor 0." (in Spanish, "Parking preferente T3. Planta 0.").
  • Bolt: Aena gives "Arrivals Car Park. Floor 0." ("Parking llegadas. Planta 0."). Bolt itself says its pick-up points are shown in the app and may change.

Aena's own parking pages indicate that both labels refer to the same arrivals car park. Uber publishes this route: go down to baggage reclaim, follow the "Ridesharing VTC | Uber" signs, leave the Arrivals hall by the door on your right, walk straight on, cross the pedestrian crossing, pass under the bridge, turn right into the car park and cross a second crossing to the Uber Pickup Point. Uber also says to follow the directions in the app once you have requested the ride.

No step-free route is published, and nobody publishes the walking distance or time. If you use a wheelchair, a walking aid or a loaded trolley, book Barrier Free assistance or take a taxi from the rank outside Arrivals instead, which needs no road crossing.

Prices are set by the app and can rise with demand; there is no public tariff. Uber Reserve can be booked up to 90 days ahead with flight tracking and a price locked in at booking, with free cancellation until one hour before pick-up; the driver waits up to 45 minutes after your flight lands (60 minutes for Black and Premier) before late fees apply. The upfront price can still change if you add stops or change the destination. Neither Uber nor Bolt guarantees child seats or publishes a wheelchair-accessible category for Málaga. "Uber Taxi" in the Uber app sends a licensed taxi, not a VTC, so the municipal tariff applies to it.

Avoiding touts, complaints and lost property

  • Nobody may offer you a ride inside the terminal. Touting for passengers in transport terminals, and paying commissions for passengers, are both prohibited by the city's by-law. A lawful pick-up is at the rank or on a documented booking.
  • Turn down a "fixed price" at the rank. There is no official fixed airport fare; the meter must run.
  • If something is wrong, for example the driver will not use the meter, refuses card payment or will not print a receipt, ask for the complaint form (hoja de reclamaciones), which every taxi must carry, and note the licence number from the door. You may also call a police officer if a driver refuses the service outright.
  • The competent authority is the Ayuntamiento de Málaga (Área de Movilidad, Oficina Municipal del Taxi): telephone 010, email [email protected]. Disputes can also go to the Junta Arbitral de Transporte or consumer arbitration if both sides agree.
  • Left something in a taxi? Call the municipal lost-property number 951 926 111, printed on the Ayuntamiento's airport fare sheet. Drivers must report a find within 24 hours and hand it in within 72 hours of the next working day. Your receipt helps identify the car. For items lost inside the terminal, see lost and found.

Travel tips

  • Every Málaga address up to about 15.6 km from the airport costs the same airport minimum, so there is nothing to gain from choosing a closer drop-off.
  • Check the tariff number on the meter: 4, 5 or 9 for Málaga, 7 or 8 for another town, 6 for a pre-booked closed price.
  • Expect roughly double the one-way distance on a trip to another town: the interurban tariff counts the return to the airport unless you agree otherwise.
  • Always take the printed receipt; it shows the licence number and the tariff applied.
  • Landing very late? Tariffs 5 or 9 apply at night, plus €2.23 between 00:00 and 06:00.
  • During the August Fair and Easter Week, tariff 5 applies 06:00–20:00 and tariff 9 from 20:00, so a weekday afternoon ride may cost more.
  • If you cannot manage two road crossings with luggage, use the taxi rank rather than Uber or Bolt.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the taxi rank at Málaga Airport?
Outside the Arrivals exit on level 0. Aena lists it simply as "Arrivals". Join the queue and take the car at the front.
How much is a taxi from Málaga Airport to the city centre?
The airport minimum fare: €18.24 on weekdays 06:00–22:00 (tariff 4), €22.48 on tariff 5 and €25.80 on tariff 9, plus €0.58 per suitcase in the boot and €2.23 between 00:00 and 06:00. Checked 9 October 2026.
How much is a taxi from Málaga Airport to Marbella?
Marbella is outside Málaga municipality, so the interurban tariff applies on a round-trip basis. On the official 52 km figure that is about €73.84 on tariff 7 (weekdays 06:00–22:00) and €85.28 on tariff 8. These are estimates; the meter governs.
Is there a fixed taxi price from the airport?
No. The tariff currently authorised contains no fixed airport fare. The meter must run and its reading is the maximum you can be charged. The only lawful closed price is one you pre-book for an interurban trip, within the tariff estimate and with the meter on.
Why is the fare to Torremolinos higher than its distance suggests?
Torremolinos is a separate municipality, so the interurban tariff applies and the trip is charged as a round trip back to the airport. On the official 10 km that is about €17.86 on tariff 7 or €20.00 on tariff 8.
Can I pay by card in a Málaga taxi?
Yes. A card reader is compulsory equipment. If it fails, the driver must stop the meter while taking you to a cash machine.
Is the €6.49 airport supplement added when I leave the airport?
No. It applies to journeys to the airport. Journeys from the airport use tariffs 4, 5 and 9, which already include the higher airport minimum.
Where do Uber and Bolt pick up at Málaga Airport?
In the arrivals car park on Floor 0, which Aena labels "Priority park T3" for Uber and "Arrivals Car Park" for Bolt. Book in the app first and follow its directions; the walk includes road crossings and no step-free route is published.
Can I get a wheelchair-accessible taxi?
Yes. At least 5% of Málaga taxi licences are adapted vehicles, and you can request one on the booking numbers printed by the Ayuntamiento: 952 333 333, 952 320 000, 952 040 804 or 952 040 404. Uber and Bolt publish no accessible category for Málaga.
Are child seats provided in taxis?
Not guaranteed. Child seats travel free and the driver must help you fit your own, so bring one if you need it.
How do I complain about a Málaga taxi?
Ask for the complaint form in the vehicle and note the licence number. The Ayuntamiento de Málaga is the competent authority: telephone 010 or [email protected].
I left something in a taxi. Who do I call?
The municipal lost-property office on 951 926 111. Have your receipt ready, as it shows the licence number.
